Care & Maintenance
Caring for Your Outdoor Nook Furniture
Your Outdoor Nook furniture is built to withstand Australian conditions, but regular care ensures it stays looking great for years. Here's how to maintain your outdoor furniture in our demanding climate.
Can I leave my cushions outside when it rains?
Our Patent-Pending All-Weather Covers:
All Outdoor Nook recliners and sofas feature innovative in-built all-weather covers that deploy in seconds. Hidden within the back of each piece, these covers protect your furniture from:
Sudden summer storms
UV exposure when not in use
Dust and debris
Bird droppings and tree sap
Simply pull the cover forward and secure—no dragging heavy covers from storage or wrestling with loose tarps.
Australian Climate Tip: In Queensland and northern regions during monsoon season, cover furniture even if undercover, as driving rain and extreme humidity can penetrate protected areas.
How do I clean my cushions?
Regular Cleaning:
Use mild dishwashing liquid (Morning Fresh, Palmolive) or gentle laundry detergent mixed with warm water. Apply with a soft-bristle brush, working in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to air dry completely before use.
Australian Climate Considerations:
Coastal areas: Rinse cushions monthly to remove salt spray buildup
High pollen regions: Clean cushions at start and end of pollen season (typically spring/summer)
Mould prevention: Ensure cushions dry completely in humid climates before storing
Stubborn Stains:
Mix bicarb soda with water to form a paste. Apply to stain, let sit for 15 minutes, then scrub gently and rinse thoroughly.
Never use: Bleach, harsh chemicals, or high-pressure washers on cushion fabric.
For detailed instructions, see our complete cleaning guide.
How do I clean the wicker?
Quick Clean:
Mix mild dishwashing liquid with warm water. Use a soft-bristle brush or non-abrasive sponge to remove dirt and debris. Rinse with fresh water and wipe dry.
Deep Clean (quarterly recommended):
Hose down wicker to remove loose dirt
Mix warm water with mild detergent
Scrub with soft-bristle brush, paying attention to crevices
Rinse thoroughly with clean water
Wipe dry with clean cloth
Australian Coastal Maintenance:
In coastal locations, rinse wicker monthly with fresh water to prevent salt buildup and corrosion of the aluminium frame.
UV Protection:
Our UV-stabilised HDPE wicker resists Australian sun, but regular cleaning removes dust and debris that can accelerate wear.
How do I maintain the aluminium frame?
Regular Care:
Wipe frames with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.
Coastal Locations:
Rinse frames monthly with fresh water to remove salt spray. This prevents corrosion and maintains the powder-coating integrity.
Check Regularly:
Inspect for any loose connections
Wipe down after dusty days (bushfire season, dry inland periods)
Remove leaves and debris from crevices
Our powder-coated aluminium frames are rust-proof and require minimal maintenance, but regular cleaning keeps them looking new.
Storage Tips
Short-term (days/weeks):
Deploy in-built all-weather covers. Ensure covers are properly secured.
Long-term (months):
Store cushions indoors in sealed bags or containers
Cover furniture with additional protective covers if stored outdoors
If possible, store in garage, shed, or covered area
Elevate slightly off ground if storing on lawn
Australian Climate Note: Avoid storing in unventilated sheds in tropical regions—trapped humidity can cause mould.
What to Avoid
Don't use:
High-pressure washers (can damage wicker and fabric)
Abrasive cleaners or brushes (scratch powder-coating)
Bleach or harsh chemicals (damage fabric and wicker)
Pool chlorine cleaning products on furniture near pools
Don't:
Leave wet cushions in sealed storage (causes mould)
Drag furniture across rough surfaces (damages frame feet)
Over-tighten connections during assembly
