Recliner Safety & Comfort Guidelines

Recliner Safety & Comfort Guidelines

To ensure everyone can safely enjoy their outdoor recliner, please follow these important guidelines:

Smooth Movements for Reclining Functions: When using the recline, swivel, or glide features, move slowly and steadily. Avoid sudden or forceful movements. Gentle, gradual adjustments help maintain stability and ensure the mechanism operates smoothly for years to come.

Centre Your Weight: Sit squarely in the middle of the seat for optimal support and comfort. Avoid leaning heavily to one side or placing excessive weight on the back or armrests, as this can affect stability.

Footrest Safety: Never allow anyone to sit or stand on the footrest when extended, as this can damage the mechanism or cause the recliner to tip. Always ensure the footrest is fully closed before standing up or getting out of the chair.

Child Safety: Always supervise young children around recliners. Do not allow them to operate the recliner independently or use it for play. Be mindful that when the recliner is reclined with the footrest extended, gaps can form where small fingers could become trapped. Always check the area is completely clear before closing the footrest.

Adequate Space Around Your Recliner: Ensure you have sufficient clearance behind and in front of the recliner for the back to recline fully and the footrest to extend completely. This prevents damage to both the chair and surrounding furniture. As a general guide, allow at least 30-40 cm of clearance behind the recliner.

Preventing Tip-Overs: To prevent the recliner from tipping, do not throw your weight against the back of the chair or sit on the footrest or armrests. Children should not play on or around the recliner, particularly when it's in the open position. While you can comfortably cross your legs, avoid sitting in a fully tucked-up, cross-legged position, as this can shift your centre of gravity and reduce stability.

Single Occupancy: Each recliner is designed for one adult at a time. This ensures proper weight distribution and maintains the integrity of the mechanism.

Australian Outdoor Conditions: Our recliners are built to handle Australian weather, but proper care extends their life:

  • Always deploy the built-in weather cover when not in use, especially during storms or extended periods away

  • In coastal areas, rinse your recliner weekly with fresh water to remove salt spray

  • During bushfire season or on high wind days, secure or store your furniture if possible

  • In areas with intense UV exposure, regular use of the built-in cover helps protect cushions when not in use

Weight Capacity: All Outdoor Nook recliners are designed with a maximum weight capacity of 136 kg per seat. Exceeding this limit can compromise the structural integrity and void your warranty.
